Burt, the legendary crocodile from the classic film ‘Crocodile Dundee’, has passed away. The secret star of the film, who was seen alongside Paul Hogan (85) in the iconic role of the crocodile, died at the ripe old age of over 90.
The reptile zoo ‘Crocosaurus Cove’ in Darwin, Australia, shared the sad news via its Facebook page. “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Burt, the iconic Saltwater crocodile and star of the Australian classic Crocodile Dundee. Burt passed away peacefully over the weekend, estimated to be over 90 years old, marking the end of an incredible era,” wrote the zoo.
‘Crocodile Dundee’: crocodile Burt died
Burt was caught in the Reynolds River in the 1980s and starred in the successful comedy ‘Crocodile Dundee’ in 1986. The film became the most successful Australian movie of all time. Since 2008, Burt has been one of the main attractions at Crocosaurus Cove. With his impressive size of over five meters in length and 700 kilograms in weight, he impressed numerous visitors.
Burt is soon to be seen in the movies again
In 2025, Burt will once again be seen on the big screen. ‘Crocodile Dundee: The 4K Encore Cut’ will be released in cinemas in the second quarter of next year, offering the adventure comedy in 4K quality for the first time. In addition, the documentary ‘Crocodile Dundee: Lightning in a Bottle’, which will present new material about the cinema phenomenon, will be released in early 2025.
