The exhibition, made possible by Louis Vuitton with support from Instagram and the Hobson/Lucas Family Foundation, was conceptualized by Monica L. Miller, Guest Curator and professor at Barnard College.

It traces Black fashion from the 18th century to now across 12 thematic sections, including “Disguise,” “Champion,” “Respectability,” and “Cool,” blending history with contemporary style.

Visitors can expect original sculptures, archival garments, photography by Tyler Mitchell, and curated works by designers such as LaQuan Smith, Theophilio, and Dapper Dan.

Programming will include community events, talks, and film screenings at venues like The Apollo’s Victoria Theater and The Billie Holiday Theater, as well as interactive workshops and a student design competition. A companion book will be released with essays from over 30 contributors.
