Parton shared the heartbreaking news on Monday evening, revealing that Dean will be honored in a private ceremony attended by close family members. Though the singer did not disclose the cause of his passing, Dean had been living with Alzheimer’s disease since his diagnosis in 2019.
The couple’s lifelong bond began in 1964 when they met at a Nashville laundromat. Parton, new to the city, later described it as “love at first sight.” They married two years later, keeping their relationship mostly private.
